We're looking for an experienced Payroll Lead to join our team.
In this role, you'll combine your technical payroll expertise with people leadership, ensuring our payroll service is accurate, compliant and colleague-focused.
You'll play an important part in supporting thousands of colleagues across our stores, distribution centres and support offices, while helping us continuously improve the way we work.
The Role
- Lead the accurate and timely delivery of monthly payrolls, ensuring compliance with UK payroll legislation.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and support to the Payroll team.
- Act as the technical expert and first point of escalation for complex payroll queries and system issues.
- Complete manual calculations for statutory payments, including SSP, SMP and other statutory entitlements.
- Manage workplace pension processes, including auto-enrolment requirements.
- Carry out payroll reconciliations and audit checks to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Build strong relationships with HR, Finance and external stakeholders, including HMRC.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and the colleague experience.
- The Person
- Experience leading or supervising a payroll team.
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, NIC, RTI, statutory payments and pensions.
- Experience working within a large or complex payroll environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with great attention to detail.
- Confidence managing sensitive or complex queries with professionalism and care.
- Experience using payroll systems and Microsoft Excel.
- A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for delivering great service.
- A CIPP qualification is desirable but not essential.
