We offer hybrid working, with an expectation that you'll be present at our Holland & Barrett office in Nuneaton for a minimum of 2 days per week.
Intro
There's more judgement in fixed asset accounting than the name might suggest.
What gets capitalised. What doesn't. Whether the right evidence is there. Whether projects are being reflected accurately in the numbers. And whether the fixed asset register genuinely tells you what the business owns.
We're looking for a Financial Reporting Analyst to take ownership of that space at Holland & Barrett.
Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, you'll look after our fixed asset accounting, challenge financial postings and work with colleagues across Finance to make sure capital expenditure is being treated correctly.
You'll also own a range of Office for National Statistics submissions - while looking for ways to make both the reporting and the processes behind it simpler, cleaner and more efficient.
What you'll be doing
- Own the fixed asset process, from capitalisation through to monthly reporting and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Review expenditure and apply judgement around Capex versus Opex, making sure accounting treatment is appropriate and supported.
- Maintain a high-quality fixed asset register with clear descriptions, categorisation and supporting records.
- Work with Finance Business Partners to understand projects, challenge postings and get underneath unusual or unclear transactions.
- Prepare and submit accurate, timely ONS surveys, supported by robust financial data.
- Keep a close eye on work in progress, helping ensure assets are capitalised at the right time.
- Support month-end reporting and provide clear audit trails for internal and external audit.
- Challenge existing processes and look for opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate the work.
What you'll bring
- You'll be someone who likes getting underneath the numbers rather than simply processing what lands in front of you.
- You'll understand the basics of fixed asset accounting, balance sheet reconciliations and journals, and you'll be comfortable asking questions when the accounting treatment doesn't quite stack up.
- You'll also be confident working with larger datasets in Excel and able to follow a transaction from the underlying detail through to the general ledger.
- Experience reviewing capital expenditure or maintaining fixed asset records would be useful, as would experience in retail, consumer, e-commerce or another multi-site business.
- A recognised finance/accounting qualification - or working towards one
Holidays
- 33 days, including bank holidays
- 24/7 Virtual GP access
- Private medical insurance β single cover (after 12 months' service)
- Annual free at-home health testing kit (after 6 months' service)
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and a network of Mental Health First Aiders whenever you need support
Financial Wellbeing
- Workplace pension with employer contribution
- Life assurance (2x salary, after 6 months' service)
Reward
- Β£50 Colleague product allowance on Holland & Barrett products (after 6 months' service)
- Access to cashback and discounts from a wide range of retailers
- 25% colleague discount, available in store and online
- Free Wellhub membership, with discounted access to gyms, studios and premium wellbeing apps
- Cycle to Work scheme
This could suit someone who enjoys the detail, but also wants to understand why the numbers look the way they do.
Someone who'll spot an odd posting, ask the next question and keep going until the accounting makes sense - then look at the process behind it and ask whether there's an easier way.
