Chiltern Railways are looking for a Skilled Service Staff - Technical Riding Inspector to join the team. This role sits in the engineering team reporting directly to the Aylesbury Production Management team. The role will support the Fleet of Class 165 DMUs, Class 168 DMUs, Mark lll Coaches/DVTs and Class 68 Diesel locomotives in their planned and casualty maintenance activities. Primarily working out Aylesbury Depot on a 24hr roster basis, a successful candidate would have experience in Safety Critical Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance from a shop floor perspective.

Our ideal candidate would be a self-motivated problem solver, experienced in production with electrical knowledge in the rail environment, and have a passion to make things easier, greener and better for the fleet.

Key Accountabilities
  • To maintain, fault diagnose, repair and service the fleet of Diesel Multiple Unit vehicles and Local Hauled Coaches and other traction and rolling stock in accordance with good engineering practice, to an acceptable standard, using the individual's skill and knowledge and experience, in accordance with environmental, technical and operational policies and procedures.
  • To acknowledge and ensure compliance with the Fleet Standards Information, as issued in the form of Depot Maintenance Schedules, Vehicle Maintenance and Technical Instructions, Job Cards and other instructions produced by the relevant departments.
  • To fully co-operate with measures and systems designed to increase productivity and the efficiency of the maintenance activity, as directed by the Duty Fleet Manager or their deputy.
  • To fully comply with the Safe Working Instructions, Depot, and individual protection measures, issued as controlled documentation.
  • To fully co-operate and comply and encourage good housekeeping and health and safety activities within the depot.
  • To act in a disciplined manner and to follow supervisory and management instructions and requests promptly.
  • To comply with the Network Rail issued Rules and Regulations Book, provisions, and documentation.
  • To undertake other duties as requested by the company.
  • Review diagnostic downloads.
  • Updating electronic documentation.
Personal Specification
  • ONC or above in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics qualification.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good understanding of schematic diagrams/layouts.
  • Can gather and process relevant information systematically.
  • Sound mechanical/electrical engineering experience and knowledge.
  • Flexible approach to working conditions and changing working environment.
  • Able to work independently or part of a team.
  • Able to arrive on time to work when no public transport is available.
  • Able to attend a changing (Early/Late/Night/Weekends) shift pattern.
  • Ability to work to high company standards.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge of Diesel Multiple Unit Vehicles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems.
  • Experience of T & RS depots.
  • Experience of T & RS fleets.
