Role: Strategic Planning Specialist (Timing and Rolling Stock) Contract Type: Permanent Location: Banbury ICC Salary: Up to £46,500 per annum Job Purpose * Support the development of detailed overall train plan proposals to present to the Department for Transport (DfT) which balance Stakeholder aspirations with maximised revenue to Chiltern Railways and the DfT whilst maintaining cost efficiency. * Contribute to an efficient future operation through review and modelling of different timetable solutions and rolling stock diagrams. * Support the development of future infrastructure or fleet-led timetable projects and business cases through efficient timetabling and rolling stock deployment. * Undertake ad-hoc rolling stock diagram modelling and analysis for timetable changes. * Contribute to a safe and efficient railway. Key Accountabilities * Assist in business case production and analysis for train plan proposals, including strategic timetabling and rolling stock diagrams. * Develop detailed and optimised rolling stock diagrams and baseline timetable concepts using relevant software including VoyagerPlan and Attune. * Support key members of the Chiltern management team with detailed train planning concepts for commercial and resourcing direction. * Work with internal and external stakeholders in development of timetable proposals and use feedback to refine products to achieve optimum outcome. * Apply sensitivity testing to modelling outputs and differentiate recommended solutions. * Support the Network Development & Track Access Manager and key members of the Train Planning Team as required. This may include some tasks related to Track and Station Access. Key Contacts: Internal * All internal Depts. * Network Development Manager * Head of Train Planning * Key Train Planning contacts. External * DfT * Network Rail * Other TOCs and FOCs * Other stakeholders Person Specification Essential: * Willingness to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team. * To be an ambassador for Chiltern Railways in the wider rail industry. * Appreciation of train planning principles and Chiltern Railways network geography. * A good working knowledge of train planning systems including VoyagerPlan and/or Attune; and willingness to learn further planning systems as required. * A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications. * Proven analytical skills and ability to think innovatively. * Excellent report writing and presentation skills as well as proven ability to negotiate and influence. * Experience of working within a tightly controlled project/programme framework. * Excellent ability to communicate internally on commercially sensitive subject matter and data. * Risk identification and ability to think/consider the consequences of a train plan well beyond the graph/diagrams created and impact/benefit to wider business strategy
