Salary: £45,586.16 per annum – this is made up of:

* Basic salary – £35,711.45

* Pen shift allowance – £8,614.79

* Annualised hours – £1,259.92

Job Purpose

* To carry out Shunters duties in line with the Network Rail Rule book and appendices.

* To allow the safe movement of any rail vehicles within the site limits, and ensure that all Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation is strictly adhered to, with respect to the Shunters activities within the Site confines.

* To co-operate fully with the relevant Site procedures and instructions as discharged through the Depot Supervisor.

* To ensure that job specific activities do not introduce unacceptable business and safety risks to any aspect of the Company’s operation, and that the appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to, ensuring that all such activities comply with the relevant sections of the Safety Case and the current Safety Plan.

Key Accountabilities

* To safely co-ordinate the movement of the track vehicles as defined within the current Rules and Regulations issued and amended from time to time.

* To carry out the Shed cleaning and Shunters duties under the direction of the Depot Supervisor.

* To acknowledge and work to the relevant Fleet Standards and Procedures, as issued in the form of Depot Maintenance Schedules, Maintenance and Technical Instructions, Job Cards and other instructions which are produced by the Production Services team.

* To fully comply with measures and systems designed to increase productivity and the efficiency of the maintenance activity, as directed by the Fleet Manager or deputy.

* To fully co-operate with the Safe Working Instructions, Site and individual protection measures, issued as controlled documentation.

* To fully co-operate and encourage good housekeeping and Health and Safety activities within the Site.

* To act in a disciplined manner and to follow Supervisory and Management instructions and requests promptly.

* To fully co-operate with the Network Rail Rule Book, Provisions and Documentation, in all matters.

* To undertake other duties as requested by the company.

Person Specification:

Essential

* Achieved a recognised railway shunting qualification or be willing to undertake training.

* Be able to participate meaningfully and fit in with, and promote a team spirit among colleagues.

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

* Be able to understand and interpret working instructions relevant to the role.

Desirable

* Previous experience within a similar role would be beneficial
