We're looking for a dynamic internal communications professional to help shape our storytelling, strengthen our channels and inspire colleagues across our operational and office-based teams. In this vital role, you'll play a key part in crafting clear, honest and impactful messages that build trust, drive engagement and support a railway that puts people at its heart. These are the core components of your job:

  • Support the Engagement and Internal Communications Manager in shaping the internal communications strategy and its delivery.
  • Manage and develop the internal communications channel infrastructure.
  • Ensure communication is relevant, open, honest, timely and informative, and garners trust and engagement.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Create engaging content suitable for Chiltern's internal communications channels that supports the business' objectives. This includes:
  • Writing, editing and posting intranet news stories and updates
  • Writing, editing and issuing regular email newsletters
  • Managing the design elements of email templates
  • Managing news noticeboards
  • Creating and editing video content
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts to design and deliver internal communications campaigns that support business objectives
  • Support line managers to develop messages that are engaging and effective, taking into account their target audience
  • Focus on driving engagement with our operational colleagues including drivers, customer services, train care and engineering teams.
  • Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications, using the findings to improve our approach.
  • Support the delivery of key engagement events such as conferences, listening events (including the People Survey) and recognition and award ceremonies.
  • Ensure all internal communications reflects Chiltern's tone of voice, uses plain English and is to a high standard
  • Liaise with the wider Corporate Affairs teams to amplify internal stories externally where appropriate.
  • Develop strong relationships with colleagues across the business that support the internal communications strategy
  • Person Specification:

    This is what you will bring to the role:

    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Highly organised with strong time management ability.
    • Minimum of three years' experience of internal communications, engagement events and project management.
    • Experience of employee communications platforms, along with solid skills in standard Microsoft Office 365 applications
    • Experience with video creation and editing
    • Confidence in dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity in a constantly changing and challenging environment.
    • A 'can do' approach to problem solving, including consulting with appropriate stakeholders to achieve relevant outcomes and knowing when to elevate for advice.
    • Ability to build in-depth understanding of complex issues and communicate these effectively.
    • Proven ability to manage own work whilst working as part of a team.
    • Comfortable working with all levels across the organisation.
