Engineering Apprentice – 4-Year Programme Location: Aylesbury Train Maintenance Depot or Wembley Light Maintenance Depot At Chiltern Railways, we’re looking for the next generation of talent to join us as Engineering Apprentices. This is your chance to get real-world experience maintaining and working on our train fleet while gaining a nationally recognised qualification – all while being paid!! Chiltern Railways provides essential commuter and regional rail services, connecting Central London with Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, and long-distance routes to the West Midlands. We\’re committed to creating a safe, efficient, and customer-focused travel experience across all our routes. What You’ll Be Doing: * Taking part in a structured 4-year apprenticeship that blends hands-on experience in our depots with classroom learning. * Working towards a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Engineering. * Shadowing experienced engineers and building your skills to carry out safety-critical maintenance on our trains. * Learning how to keep our fleet running safely, reliably, and efficiently. * Contributing to one of the UK\’s most respected rail operators. What You’ll Learn: * Electrical and mechanical engineering principles. * How to maintain, repair, and test complex rail systems. * Health, safety, and environmental standards in a live railway setting. * Problem-solving and critical thinking skills for real-world scenarios. What We’re Looking For: Essential: * Enthusiasm for engineering and hands-on learning. * Willingness to travel sometimes outside your normal working hours. * Ability to pass aptitude tests in mechanical and electrical reasoning, numeracy, and literacy. * A positive, proactive attitude – organised, dependable, and eager to learn! Desirable: * GCSEs (grades 4-9) in Maths, English, and Science. * Strong communication skills – written and verbal. * Confidence using IT and analysing data. * Experience using hand tools or working in a practical environment. * An interest in trains, mechanics, or the transport industry.
