Job Purpose
- The creation of base LTP and amended STP Train Crew diagrams for Chiltern Railways. This role will include the creation of base and amended Train Manager and Driver diagrams as required.
- To ensure that job specific activities do not introduce unacceptable business and safety risks to any aspect of the Company’s operation, and that the appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to, ensuring that all such activities comply with the relevant sections of the Safety Case and the current Safety Plan.
- To uphold the principles, processes and rules of train-crew diagramming, making amendments to the base crew diagrams for STP timetable alterations for commercial, special event or engineering requirements.
- Liaise with train planners regarding required amendments to plans to ensure train crew diagrams are as efficient as possible.
- Liaise with Resource team and Traincrew Strategy Manager for the accurate production of rosters and establishments as required.
Key Accountabilities
- To create and manage the introduction of new ‘base’ Driver and Train Manager diagrams (as required) for timetables every May and December each year. This will require use of IT systems such as, but not limited to VoyagerPlan and Microsoft Office.
- To create and manage short term amendments to the base Train Crew diagrams each week for special events and engineering works.
- Manage completed stock workings to ensure that units/train crew are diagrammed. Whenever possible to the timescales required by the company and Network Rail.
- Ensure a high level of data integrity when preparing diagrams.
- Liaise with Train Planning Specialist for the distribution of weekly issue information.
- Assist Train Planning Manager with daily tasks as required. Liaise with fellow Train Crew Diagramming Specialist and Trainee Train Crew Diagrammer as required.
- Assist with the training and development of the Trainee Train Crew Diagrammer.
- Maintain a Train Crew Diagramming Compendium alongside fellow Train Crew Diagramming Specialist and Trainee Train Crew Diagrammer.
Person Specification
- Two years’ experience in train planning or operations, with a working knowledge of all aspects of diagramming, including the processes used for permanent schedules and short-term planning. A thorough knowledge of Chiltern Railways operations, commercial imperatives, and customer base is required.
- Knowledge of VoyagerPlan or similar Train Planning systems is desirable. Competency is required in Microsoft Office, with good knowledge of Excel essential. Advanced training is available as required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required. Good numeracy and interpersonal skills are important.
