Role Purpose To lead the provision and development of training and competency assessments for engineering department staff.
To maintain records of training undertaken by Engineering department staff.
To supervise and manage engineering apprentices for the duration of their training.
To ensure that job specific activities do not introduce unacceptable business and safety risks to any aspect of the Company’s operation, and that the appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to, ensuring that all such activities comply with the relevant sections of the Safety Case and the current Safety Plan.
- Key Accountabilities
- Manage the Engineering department safety critical competency management system and its compliance with relevant legislation & standards.
- Maintain records of engineering staff training and competency.
Maintain a training matrix detailing the training needs for staff in fleet maintenance grades in accordance with legislation & Railway Group standards and for others as agreed with the Engineering Manager.
- Develop training to meet requirements identified by Operations Managers, the Fleet Manager and the Engineering Manager.
Manage the Engineering Apprentices and their training in liaison with ATG and other colleges.
- Organise and deliver training courses for all Engineering staff including Plant & Buildings.
- Source training from external organisations where the expertise is not available within the department.
- Manage external training within the training budget.
Develop new and existing training courses as methods, practices, procedures and legislation change.
- Manage PTS competency and training provision for the company as a whole.
- To comply and encourage good housekeeping activities within the depot including 5S.
- To undertake other duties as requested by the company.
Person Specification Essential
- Proven written and oral communication skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Possesses a flexible approach to this demanding role
- Technical and engineering knowledge of Chiltern Railways Fleet
- Able to work under own initiative
Desirable
- ONC or above in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/PC/Software qualification
- Previous experience as a trainer or supervisor
- Good understanding of relevant health and safety and environmental regulations/ procedures
- A1 A2 Assessor
- L1 Trainer
- IOSH Managing safety
