About the role
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Biological Imaging and Artificial Intelligence within the School of Engineering. This role is focused on establishing an independent research profile and delivering research-informed education in the field of biomedical and biological imaging and AI. You will predominantly contribute to the Biomedical Engineering Research Group, with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in Digital Manufacturing and Management and Mechanics of Materials where there is alignment with research expertise. Alongside research, the role includes teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes as required, supervising student research projects, contributing to curriculum development and the design of new academic programmes. The post holder will also undertake appropriate administrative and leadership responsibilities, contribute to outreach and recruitment activities, and support the effective academic operation of the School and wider University.
About you
You will have a good first degree in engineering, science or applied mathematics, together with a PhD or equivalent research or industrial experience in a relevant field such as data science, artificial intelligence or biological imaging. You will demonstrate a developing or established track record of high-quality research publications and the ability to plan and deliver a substantive research programme, including the preparation of competitive funding proposals. You will also hold, or be willing to work towards, professional registration and a recognised academic teaching qualification. You will be an effective educator with the ability to teach, supervise and assess students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to contribute to curriculum development using appropriate teaching approaches. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and the capacity to work collaboratively within an academic environment are essential for success in this role.
