Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) areseeking experienced and motivated Senior Occupational Therapists to join theinnovative Experts at Hand programme.

  • Exeter & East Devon: 1.0 WTE and 0.5 WTE

These posts sit within CFHD's Physical andSensory Pathway, a well-established multidisciplinary service bringing togetherOccupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy to improveoutcomes for children and young people across Devon.

Successful applicants will help shape anddeliver an innovative model of care through consultation, coaching, trainingand targeted intervention, supporting children, families, schools andprofessionals whilst remaining connected to established children's therapyservices.

We welcome applications from OccupationalTherapists with paediatric experience and those bringing transferable skillsfrom community, acute, rehabilitation, mental health, learning disability,neurodevelopmental or other specialist settings.

You will join a supportive multidisciplinaryteam with access to supervision, peer support, professional leadership andexcellent development opportunities. The role offers opportunities forspecialist practice, service development, leadership experience, workforce developmentand career progression. Main duties of the job

  • Hold responsibility for assessment, clinicalreasoning, intervention planning and management of a specialist caseload.
  • Deliver specialist occupational therapy assessment, advice and interventionacross home, education and community settings.
  • Work collaboratively with children, families, educational settings andpartner agencies using strengths-based, goal-focused and evidence-basedapproaches.
  • Support schools through consultation, coaching, modelling of strategies,training and capacity-building activities.
  • Deliver and evaluate targeted interventions using evidence-based practice androutine outcome measures.
  • Provide specialist advice regarding equipment, environmental adaptations andstatutory occupational therapy responsibilities where appropriate.
  • Work autonomously whilst managing clinical risk and complexity.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement and the ongoingdevelopment of the Experts at Hand model.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and support to Band 4 and Band 5 staff,assistants and students.
  • Support multidisciplinary working, workforce development and positiveoutcomes for children and young people.
  • Work flexibly across localities and service areas to support service need anddemand.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises anAlliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes forchildren and young people in Devon.

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children andyoung people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay andSouth Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are workingclosely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver localityand county-wide based integrated access to all of our services.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth,Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinicaltraining placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake postgraduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has beendeveloped and refined in partnership with children, young people and theirfamilies/carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Diploma level specialist training or experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Post-graduate certified courses specific to childrens needs (e.g. Sensory training; ADOS, 3di etc)
  • Membership of professional body

Experience

  • To work within trust clinical guidelines and Royal College of OT and HCPC standards
  • To have working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own quality and safety of practice
  • Extensive knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice and specialist approaches
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation affecting clinical practice such as manual handling, housing and SEND
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of Occupational Therapy therapeutic interventions for children and young people including but not inclusive to: manual handling, specialist equipment, 24-hour postural management, fine motor, sensory differences and housing adaptations
  • Knowledge of a wide range of Occupational Therapy assessment tools appropriate to meet a wide range of needs in the paediatric population
  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of legislation around SEND
