At Chilcotts Law, we believe in doing things differently — focusing on quality, personal service, and long-term client relationships, not volume targets.
With a proud history dating back to the 1800s, Chilcotts Law is a well-established and highly respected firm in the heart of Tavistock. We work with clients across West Devon, South East Cornwall and beyond, many of whom have been with us for generations. Our reputation is built on trust, expertise, and genuinely personal service. Located on the edge of Dartmoor, Tavistock offers an exceptional quality of life, with easy access to Plymouth and the South West coastline.
We are looking for a Residential Conveyancer (Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive) to join our friendly and busy team. You will manage your own caseload with the support of experienced colleagues and three highly skilled Legal Secretaries, allowing you to focus on delivering excellent client service rather than admin. This is primarily an office-based role in Tavistock, with flexibility and some hybrid working available where appropriate.

- Freehold and leasehold sales and purchases
- Registered and unregistered land
- Re-mortgages and transfers of equity
- Easements, plot sales and deeds of gift
What We are Looking For
- Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive
- Experience managing a residential conveyancing caseload.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Confident client-facing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- 3–5 years’ PQE
- CQS accreditation
- Experience with case management systems
- Experience supervising or mentoring others.
Why Join Chilcotts Law?
- This is a role where you can build a long-term, sustainable career — not just process files.
- Enjoy Your Work – Supportive, friendly environment with realistic expectations.
- Focus on Quality – No factory-style conveyancing or excessive caseloads.
- Build Relationships – Work closely with clients and the local community.
- Be Valued – Your contribution genuinely matters.
What We Offer
