Chigwell Primary Academy wishes to appoint a Special Education Needs Learning Support Assistant. The role is vital to the school and involves supporting children with a variety of needs, including Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). We are particularly interested in individuals with a background in Speech and Language, ADHD, SEMH, and Autism. The position is initially offered as a fixed term until 31/08/2027, with potential extension depending on funding. SEND Learning Support Assistants are valued members of the teaching team. In addition to working directly with the children’s teacher, the LSA is encouraged to use their own initiative and skills to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for the children.

Responsibilities

  • Support children with SEND in a primary age range.
  • Work in a friendly, busy environment.
  • Apply an understanding of SEN needs to help meet individual requirements.
  • Use initiative to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least one year of experience working with SEND children.
  • Level 2 qualification in play work/childcare.
  • Paediatric first aid qualification (desirable).
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding procedures.
  • Sympathetic understanding of the emotional, social and intellectual needs of children with special educational needs.
