This is what you will do: In the role of Public Affairs Manager, you will ensure Chiesi is well positioned to shape and influence relevant healthcare, medicines and sustainability policies, communicating and leveraging on Chiesi’s insights and evidence as well as our B Corp and sustainability credentials.
You will need to be: We are seeking a high performing policy expert who is self-motivated and responsible, to join our Public Affairs team and deliver impactful engagement for the business. This role presents an opportunity to pursue an interest in national healthcare policy across the whole of the UK, with a focus on respiratory diseases, access to medicines, and sustainable healthcare. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a policy role at a national level, ideally with experience of the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries. You will be able to demonstrate how you engage with senior policy makers and/or government officials to influence regional, national or international policies.
The role requires excellent knowledge of current healthcare policy and healthcare systems across the UK and ideally knowledge of relevant government policies within respiratory. Prior experience working within pharmaceuticals, healthcare or other regulated industries will be an advantage. We’re looking for someone who can think creatively to find innovative policy solutions that help patients, the NHS and Chiesi.
You will need to have: Candidates must have an appropriate degree or post graduate qualification, as well as a full awareness of ABPI Code of Practice. The ideal candidate will bring a science or business qualification, coupled with hands-on Public Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector, and a strong track record of shaping policy or engaging in political work at a national level.
You will be responsible for: The role will be responsible for aligning closely with cross functional teams to inform, support and co-create strategic public affairs plans that fully align to the priorities of the business. It will plan and deliver impactful stakeholder engagement programmes with high quality supporting materials. The role is a key part of the wider Public Affairs and Communications team. A critical success factor will be establishing strong relationships with relevant field teams, head office functions and global colleagues, to ensure that up-to-date intelligence is shared, and the PA function adds measurable value to the business. The role will report to the Head of Public Affairs. There will be regular reporting of the impact of the Public Affairs programme to both Global and UK senior management teams. The role will require travel across the UK and some international travel.
Overarching:
- Develop, manage, and implement the PA programme and other PA activity as required
- Support the Head of Public Affairs with programme budget management
- Provide accurate and timely reports of progress of the PA plan
- Provide accurate and timely updates of policy insights and associated risks/issues for Chiesi
- Effective supplier management (in accordance with Chiesi policies)
- Active participation in relevant Global projects
- Fully compliant with Chiesi Public Affairs governance procedures
- Ensure Chiesi company values underpin all ways of working and delivery of the PA programmes
Stakeholder management:
- Build and develop stakeholder engagement plans to ensure coverage of current and evolving key policy leads and decision-makers, to build clear customer insights and appropriate solutions and communicate the value of Chiesi and key policy issues to target audiences.
- Connect relevant Chiesi personnel (including Chiesi UK Senior Management Team, regional and global colleagues) with external senior leaders to enable quick decision making on key business issues and develop longer term opportunities for dialogue at an executive level.
- Work alongside NHS Engagement, Marketing, Commercial and Medical teams to develop and foster positive working relationships with patient organisations and societies.
Healthcare policy management:
- Horizon scan and maintain a detailed knowledge of relevant policy objectives/drivers and apply this to identify opportunities and risks for Chiesi across all business units.
- Share timely insights with appropriate colleagues and teams to inform current and future plans
- Lead Chiesi’s response to consultation exercises relating to healthcare policy and healthcare environment and the development of any related position papers
- Work with Public Affairs and Communications colleagues to build and maintain excellent relations with trade associations
- To represent Chiesi on industry working groups and actively contribute to project work groups where appropriate
- Ensure strict compliance to both company values, standards (SOPs) and the ABPI Code of Practice
- Comply with the Company Code of Ethics
- In line with annual objectives, contribute and support the UK Affiliate in its pursuit to become more sustainable, ensuring that you and/or your teams commit to and deliver at least 2 initiatives each year.
Location: This position is open to applicants across the UK, with a preference for those based in London or Manchester.
