The Role: As a Payroll Manager, you will have a sole responsibility for your own portfolio of clients, providing them with a high quality and reliable personal service, and processing the payroll from start to finish. You will be responsible for completion of payroll review work and become involved in technical tasks. In addition to the traditional payroll responsibilities, you will get involved in business development projects and other initiatives assisting the Payroll Senior Manager.
What you will do:
- Supporting the Payroll Director ensuring that high standards of payroll compliance, operating procedures, quality, and client‑service are maintained.
- Client Management
- Assisting with business development projects.
- Onboarding of new clients.
- Developing and maintaining client contact and relationships.
- Preparation of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a varied portfolio of clients covering all aspects of payroll from start to finish including Pension Auto‑enrolment responsibilities.
- Completion of payroll reviews for senior associates as well as junior members of staff.
- BACS checks and submissions.
- Resolving complex client queries.
- Overall responsibility for client journals and health check reviews for external clients.
- Overall responsibility for reviews and delegation of due diligence and audit testing requirements.
- Overall responsibility for client service including client service calls, errors, cold file reviews and 3 month client reviews.
- Liaising and communication with Managers, Partners and other departments within the firm.
- People Management
- Overall responsibility for team training and development.
- Year end compliance and training.
- Providing support and guidance to the team.
- Ensuring senior associates and junior members of the team complete their responsibilities.
- Employee CFCs and annual appraisal.
- Monitoring and approving holidays and overtime for the team.
- Recruitment and staff promotion assistance to the Director.

- Being the Bureau Managers Association contact and face for the firm.
- CT payroll backup.
- Keeping up to date with technical developments.
- Ad hoc assignments and work from the Director.
