Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles, ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
- Diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment and rectification techniques
- Perform MOT preparation and inspections to DVSA standards
- Complete preventative maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime
- Repair and replace mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
- Accurately complete job cards, service sheets, and maintenance records
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Comply with health & safety regulations at all times
- Provide breakdown support as required (if applicable)
Skills and Experience Required:
- Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / Technician
- Relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
- Valid HGV driving licence (Class C or C+E) – desirable but not essential
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of DVSA regulations and vehicle safety standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good time management and attention to detail
Desirable:
- Experience working with mixed fleets
- Trailer maintenance experience
- IRTEC accreditation
- Experience with diagnostic software
