Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles, ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
  • Diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment and rectification techniques
  • Perform MOT preparation and inspections to DVSA standards
  • Complete preventative maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime
  • Repair and replace mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
  • Accurately complete job cards, service sheets, and maintenance records
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Comply with health & safety regulations at all times
  • Provide breakdown support as required (if applicable)

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / Technician
  • Relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent)
  • Valid HGV driving licence (Class C or C+E) – desirable but not essential
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of DVSA regulations and vehicle safety standards
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good time management and attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Experience working with mixed fleets
  • Trailer maintenance experience
  • IRTEC accreditation
  • Experience with diagnostic software
