The Director of Business Development (DoBD) leads the execution of Evolve’s business development and sales strategy by generating leads, managing the sales pipeline, overseeing proposal development, and closing new business. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, this role owns the day-to-day systems, processes, and discipline required to meet the firm’s revenue goals.
The DoBD works closely with the leadership team to translate Evolve’s strategic priorities and senior-level relationships into an active pipeline and measurable revenue growth. This role is responsible for sales execution, forecasting accuracy, and continuous improvement of the firm’s business development infrastructure.
Evolve operates in a remote environment. This role includes occasional evening and/or in-person meetings, overnight travel to client sites and conferences, and partner-facing engagements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Executive Vice President to develop and execute the firm’s business development strategy and revenue priorities.
- Own and manage the full sales pipeline, from lead qualification through contract execution, while maintaining an active portfolio of prospective clients from both self-sourced and inbound opportunities.
- Establish and maintain accurate sales forecasting, reporting, and performance metrics, including pipeline health, conversion rates, and revenue generation.
- Own the proposal development process, including strategy, timelines, coordination, and delivery, while supervising the Proposal Manager and partnering with Evolve’s Directors and Senior Consultants on scoping, pricing, and staffing.
- Develop, manage, and optimize revenue-generating partnerships, including referral partners, channel partners, and co-selling relationships, while tracking partner-sourced leads, conversions, and revenue impact.
- Activate and pursue opportunities originating from Evolve’s leadership team through structured follow-up and pipeline management.
- Ensure consistent use and data integrity of HubSpot across all sales activities and partner with Operations to strengthen CRM workflows, reporting, and usability.
- Strengthen firmwide business development by coaching Directors and senior staff, aligning conference and event strategy with priority sectors, and coordinating with Client Services, Finance, and Operations on sales handoffs and revenue attribution.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including significant frontline fundraising experience securing major gifts from individuals and institutional partners.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted, senior-level relationships with nonprofit executives, board members, donors, and partners that result in new business opportunities.
- Deep understanding of nonprofit fundraising and strategy, with the ability to engage leaders in consultative conversations and present compelling recommendations that lead to new client engagements.
- Experience leading complex business development pursuits, including proposal development, opportunity scoping, and coordination of cross-functional teams contributing to sales efforts.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and executive presence, with the ability to engage persuasively with boards, executive teams, and large audiences.
- Strong organizational discipline and sound judgment, including the ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously while effectively using CRM systems, sales technologies, and emerging AI-enabled tools to support pipeline management, forecasting, and business development operations.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with senior leadership and consulting teams.
