Our client is an economics consultancy specialising in local economic development, investment strategy, regeneration, and public value. They work with public and private sector partners across the UK to design strategies, build investment cases, and deliver analysis that strengthens places and economies.
As the organisation grows, they are seeking a Senior or Principal Consultant to lead economic analysis, evaluation, business case development, and broader strategic advisory work. The role will play a central part in strengthening the firm’s analytical capability and delivering high-quality insights for clients. It suits someone with strong technical expertise who enjoys combining rigorous quantitative work with strategic thinking, and who wants to influence investment decisions, regeneration projects, infrastructure programmes, and innovation-led growth across the UK.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and deliver economic assessments, business cases, impact studies, and funding bids across projects in infrastructure, regeneration, housing, and innovation.
- Conduct cost–benefit analysis, socio-economic impact assessments, and evaluation work using HMT Green Book and Magenta Book guidance.
- Produce high-quality reports, analysis, slide decks, and client-facing presentations.
- Shape investment strategies and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations.
- Manage day-to-day client relationships and support stakeholder engagement.
- Contribute to proposal writing and wider business development activity.
- Guide and develop junior team members, promoting best practice in analytical methods and business case development.
- Support internal improvements and occasional business administration as required.
- At Principal level, deliver a wider range of complex projects with greater autonomy and lead on business development initiatives.
- Proven analytical experience in economic or engineering consultancy.
- Strong background in economic impact analysis, evaluation, and business case development.
- Skilled in applying HMT Green Book, Magenta Book, the 5-case model, and cost–benefit analysis.
- Experience delivering socio-economic assessments, funding bids, and investment cases across regeneration, infrastructure, housing, or innovation.
- Strong data skills with good knowledge of socio-economic datasets and analytical tools.
- Proven ability to manage projects, clients, and high-quality deliverable end to end.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative approach, with experience supporting or mentoring colleagues.
- Good understanding of UK local economic policy and place-based challenges.
