We are looking for a Maintenance and Design Engineer to join our team in a unique hybrid role combining hands-on maintenance engineering with mechanical, electrical and design engineering activities. This position plays a key role in maintaining operational uptime across machinery and facilities, while also designing and developing engineered solutions to support both customer and business needs. This role offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work across maintenance, design, prototyping and continuous improvement.
The Role
- Provide engineering support across:
- Machinery breakdown response, fault-finding and repair
- Planned preventative maintenance and site maintenance
- Mechanical, electrical and basic PCB design
- CAD modelling, technical drawings and engineering documentation
You will work with machine shop equipment, CNC machinery and CAD systems, while managing parts and documentation through a PDM/PLM system.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Fault-Finding
- Maintain the operational availability of machinery, tooling and equipment
- Assess faults, diagnose root causes and carry out effective repairs
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems under time pressure
- Apply structured problem-solving to restore equipment safely and efficiently
- Carry out scheduled inspections, calibration and preventative maintenance
- Perform planned repairs and cleaning to minimise downtime
- Undertake basic site maintenance including plumbing, heating, lighting, electrics and carpentry
- Support HVAC systems including chillers, air conditioning and fan-based cooling
- Ensure all work is conducted in line with safety standards and regulations
- Interpret customer requirements and develop practical engineering solutions
- Produce complex 3D models and manage large assemblies
- Create detailed 2D drawings suitable for manufacture
- Design sheet metal components for external manufacture
- Build samples and prototypes to validate designs
- Produce basic electrical schematics, wiring solutions and PCB layouts
- Use SolidWorks 2026 and TurboCAD 2022 for 3D and 2D design
- Manage parts, revisions, BOMs and Engineering Change Requests within INFOR
- Use ERP and computerised systems to support scheduling and control
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and industry standards
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, drawings and reports

Essential
- 18th Edition (BS 7671) Wiring Regulations
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting experience
- Experience planning and carrying out preventative maintenance
- Hands-on experience with lathes, milling machines, CNC machines and workshop tools
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 2026 and TurboCAD 2022
- Experience creating complex 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings
- Knowledge of electrical safety regulations and standards
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Excellent organisation, time management and attention to detail
