Who We Are
Founded in Sheffield in 2004, CHG Electrical has more than two decades of engineering heritage.
Built on strong electrical engineering foundations, the business has evolved into a multidisciplinary engineering partner delivering complex projects across water utilities, rail, steel and manufacturing.
Today, our capabilities span MEICA, EICAT, civil engineering, control-panel design and manufacture, automation, software and digital transformation. We support projects from initial design through installation and commissioning to long-term maintenance, combining practical, hands‑on engineering experience with modern technology and intelligent thinking.
Throughout that evolution, the principles behind CHG have remained consistent: technical excellence, exceptional quality, safe delivery and trusted long-term relationships.
It's this proven heritage, combined with our ambition to keep innovating, that enables us to deliver reliable, future‑ready solutions for some of the UK's most important infrastructure.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to become an important part of CHG's growing design capability, developing the mechanical engineering solutions that sit at the heart of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
You'll produce detailed layouts, pipework designs, equipment specifications and calculations to support the installation of process plant and MEICA equipment across clean and dirty water treatment sites.
Working alongside civil, electrical and wider engineering specialists, you'll ensure mechanical designs don't simply work technically, but are practical to build, integrate effectively with other disciplines and meet the requirements of the project and water company.
You'll also remain involved as projects move onto site, providing technical support during construction, resolving design queries and helping take your designs through to successful handover.
Where You'll Make an Impact
Design Practical Mechanical Solutions
- Prepare mechanical engineering designs, drawings and calculations covering pumps, pipework, valves, tanks and process plant.
- Support the development of P&IDs, GA layouts and equipment schedules for project mobilisation.
- Interpret process flow information and equipment specifications to develop effective engineering solutions.
Bring Engineering Disciplines Together
- Coordinate with civil, electrical and wider project teams to ensure mechanical designs integrate effectively across the complete MEICA solution.
- Work with internal teams and external consultants to ensure buildability and technical alignment.
- Review and approve subcontractor and supplier mechanical design proposals.
Design for Safe, Compliant Delivery
- Ensure designs meet relevant standards, specifications and water company requirements.
- Participate in HAZOPs, CDM risk assessments and constructability reviews.
- Contribute to design risk registers and ensure temporary and permanent works requirements are properly considered.
Support Projects Through Construction
- Provide technical support to site teams throughout the construction phase.
- Respond to technical queries and RFIs, helping resolve design and installation challenges efficiently.
- Contribute to O&M manuals, as-built records and wider project documentation.
Think Beyond the Immediate Build
- Develop sustainable and cost-effective mechanical solutions.
- Consider whole-life asset performance when selecting equipment and developing designs.
- Help identify opportunities to improve buildability, efficiency and long‑term asset performance.
About You
You'll be a Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong understanding of how mechanical and process systems come together within complex infrastructure environments.
Ideally, you'll have developed your experience within water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure, giving you practical knowledge of
