Job Purpose: Learning & Development develops professional culture and capability by delivering high-quality, compliance-led aviation specific training that supports safe, effective live aircraft maintenance and operational performance. This role is designed for experienced aircraft technicians / engineers / mechanics who want to move into training and instruction. If you bring current, hands-on aircraft maintenance knowledge and real-world experience, we will support you to become a confident Aviation Instructor through accredited training, mentoring, and structured upskilling.
You will deliver and develop training that meets internal requirements (capability, standardisation, competency and compliance) and also support external customer delivery through our customers brand. This is a customer-facing position.
You will develop you into:
- A qualified technical instructor who can translate live maintenance experience into clear, structured learning.
- A competent assessor (and, where required, internal quality assurer) working to awarding body and regulatory requirements.
- A trusted technical authority who supports our internal compliance obligations and external customer commitments.
- A Training Programme development specialist, capable of utilising models such as DSAT, KOLB, Kirkpatrick, etc. to create high impact, meaningful and measurable training interventions.
Job Accountabilities:
- Training Needs Analysis (Internal and External): Act in a consultative capacity to advise internal teams and external customers on training needs. Contribute to regular training needs analysis (TNA) to identify capability gaps, compliance risks and opportunities to improve performance. Work with Engineering, Quality, Safety and Operations SMEs to ensure training reflects current procedures and real-world maintenance challenges.
- Training Programme Development: Design, develop, implement and evaluate technical training programmes aligned to business needs, customer requirements and regulatory expectations. Create inclusive, engaging learning pathways and assessments that balance theory with practical application on live aircraft / realistic training environments. Develop and maintain lesson plans, schemes of work, presentations, handouts, practical task guides and competency assessment tools. Ensure training programmes encompass practical skills, human factors, safety management principles, and awarding body / regulatory compliance requirements. Horizon scan aviation and training sector developments to embed best practice and appropriate innovation.
- Training Delivery, Coaching and Mentoring: Deliver high-quality instruction across internal and external programmes, adapting delivery to different learning styles and experience levels. Coach technicians and engineers in correct procedures, standards and behaviours, including company paperwork and customer documentation requirements. Support the L&D Training Manager with planning, scheduling and coordination of training delivery, including occasional travel and customer/site delivery. Represent Storm Aviation and Avensa professionally during customer-facing delivery and industry engagement (e.g., meetings, open days, trade events).
- Assessment, Competence and Quality Assurance: Conduct assessments for employees and customers completing internal training and formal qualifications, in line with awarding body and company procedures. Support / assess / monitor delegates working toward qualifications and competence milestones. Contribute to the creation, maintenance and continual improvement of competency assessment processes and standardisation materials. Comply with Training Department IQA / standardisation processes and maintain required records and evidence.
- Compliance, Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintain accurate training records that are up-to-date and available for inspection/audit. Ensure documentation and record-keeping meet legislative and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CAA / EASA requirements, and any applicable awarding body / education regulator requirements). Work closely with Quality and Safety teams to ensure training content and evidence aligns with internal compliance requirements and customer contractual expectations.
- Safety Management: Embed safety management principles, human factors and just culture into training delivery. Promote safe behaviours and maintain a strong safety culture in line with company policy and applicable CAA / EASA requirements.
- Commercial Awareness: Deliver cost-effective, high-quality training that supports operational performance and reduces compliance risk. Identify opportunities to improve customer offerings and potential training revenue streams through Avensa.
- Self-Development: Evidence ongoing CPD and maintain technical currency in aircraft maintenance and training practice. Complete company-supported accredited training and upskilling as agreed (subject to bonding agreements where applicable).
Essential: Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge:
- Demonstrable experience in live aircraft maintenance (line and/or base), with strong working knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices, standards and paperwork.
- Credibility with engineers/technicians and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality and compliance; ability to follow and promote standardised processes.
- Confident communicator with a customer-focused mindset (internal stakeholders and external Avensa customers).
- A drive to work toward teaching/training and assessment qualifications with company support.
Desirable:
- Part-66 licence and/or type experience (or equivalent demonstrable competence).
- Previous experience mentoring, coaching, training or supervising others in a maintenance environment.
- Any teaching/training qualification (e.g., Level 3 AET / CTLLS or equivalent).
- Any assessor qualification (e.g., Level 3 CAVA / TAQA or equivalent).
Company-supported Accredited Training (typical pathway):
- Instructor development and delivery skills (including lesson planning, facilitation and learner support).
- Assessor qualification (e.g., CAVA / TAQA or equivalent) and standardisation.
- Quality assurance upskilling (IQA), where the business requires.
- Leadership / coaching development to support learner management and performance.

- Self-management and ability to manage workload at pace.
- Flexible and agile approach; able to adapt training for different contexts and customer requirements.
- Ability to produce high-quality training materials (lesson plans, SOWs, presentations, handouts, assessments and supporting documentation).
