Job Purpose

To carry out detailed mechanical inspection of aircraft components, parts and assemblies to confirm compliance with approved data, customer requirements and internal procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in work and final inspection (including release to service) of aircraft components, parts and assemblies.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, approved repair data, work instructions and customer specifications.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, fit and condition using appropriate calibrated tools and equipment.
  • Carry out detailed visual inspection for wear, corrosion, damage, cracking indicators, deformation and other defects.
  • Confirm material, process and traceability documentation aligns to job requirements.
  • Complete inspection records, job cards, certificates and release packs clearly and accurately.
  • Raise non‑conformance reports and support investigation, containment and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with production, planning, engineering and supply chain to resolve quality or technical issues quickly.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing objective evidence and maintaining tidy, compliant records.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, human factors awareness and standard workshop controls.

Inspection equipment and methods

  • Micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges, thread gauges, radius gauges and surface finish comparators.
  • CMM and digital measurement systems where available.
  • Use of precision measuring techniques appropriate to aerospace tolerances.

Typical component exposure

  • Machined parts, sheet metal items, brackets, housings, shafts, pins, bushes, fasteners and assemblies.
  • Components returned from service requiring assessment against the CMM, SRM and OEM drawings.

Qualification & Education

  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Inspection related training desirable.
  • Experience within an EASA Part 145 or Part 21 environment is an advantage.
