Job Purpose: The Duty Manager will have an aircraft engineering background within a CAA/EASA environment, who leads and manages the day-to-day operational activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the station. The role will cover administrative and managerial duties including workload management and booking control, production planning and will be responsible for supervising and managing staff on shift.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Maintain awareness of company Health & Safety policy and ensure that staff under their control practice approved methods to minimise risk to personnel or equipment. Encourage a safety culture among shift members and advise the Station Manager of potential hazards or improvements. Promote a safety conscious culture, encourage reporting. Mentor and assist staff development, actively involved with onboarding for new starters (Company and Customer procedures). Effective management, development, and motivation of the team. Carry out staff appraisals. Encourage a strong work ethic and staff interaction across shift personnel and lead by example. Manage all shift activities and responsibilities ensuring efficient use of manpower while ensuring activities contribute to continued airworthiness and expedient defect resolution. Assess all work requests with attention to tooling, manpower and downtime. Manage and maintain a safe and efficient line maintenance operation. Ensure shift levels and skills are sufficient to achieve planned workload in line with Production Planning Process and report discrepancies to Engineering Management. Maintain good relationships between line stations and interfacing departments. Aid Customer Airline in achieving on-time performance targets. Ensure responsible staff are aware of their responsibilities and updated procedures. Maintain the line station in a clean, safe and efficient manner during duty periods.
- Regulatory and Budgetary Requirements: Ensure all relevant Station, EASA and CAA regulations are met. Follow, maintain and review procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. Follow and record all relevant directions, procedures and directives. Bring cost savings or potential overspends to the attention of the Station Manager. Raise overtime requirements for Station Manager approval where appropriate. Assess H&S issues and bring them to the Station Manager’s attention.
- Line Maintenance: Ensure staff on shift are aware of H&S obligations and responsibilities. Review roster 14 days in advance to ensure staffing levels and skills are sufficient. Arrange backfill and overtime as required in line with Station Manager directions. Ensure production planning is complete for current and upcoming shifts. Review daily customer work requests, ensure spares are identified/received and placed on pre-load. Maintain good relationships between line stations and interfacing departments. Aid Customer Airlines in on-time performance. Brief staff on responsibilities and updates regularly. Maintain a clean, safe and efficient line station, including vehicles and facilities. Complete and update: Production Plan, Handover Diary, Charge sheets, Daily Station Report in Teams, Staff Temp Monitoring Form, Tool verification, Delay Reports, and Customer Daily Reporting requirements.
- Communication: Bring issues to the Station Manager’s attention. At the start of each shift, review ongoing problems, maintain a shift log, and brief the oncoming shift. Ensure staff are regularly briefed and aware of responsibilities and updates. Maintain good communication across shifts and interfacing departments. Attend meetings as required. Keep Customer MOC informed about aircraft serviceability and maintenance condition. Maintain awareness of Technical Instructions, NTEs and Procedures from all sources.
- Ad Hoc: Carry out tasks as detailed by the Station Manager. Carry out Pt 145 training. Deputise for the Station Manager in his absence.
Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge:
- Qualification & Education: A recognised apprenticeship within the aircraft industry or similar. Relevant Aircraft Engineering experience.
- Experience: Team Leader, Organisational Skills, Negotiation Skills, People management, Communicator.
- Training & Knowledge: Experience of Base operated Aircraft, Supervisory and/or Managerial experience, Technical experience in aviation and certifying Aircraft within UK/EASA regulations, Working knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance Production Planning.
