Marine Supply & Trading is the Corporate Marine Center of Expertise for Chevron operations and projects.
We provide safe, reliable and cost-competitive marine transportation, manage marine risk, and add value to the enterprise through our operations, technical, project, and commercial support to our customers.
The Freight Trading team is responsible for acquiring tankers for upstream and downstream customers, as well as deployment of company-controlled vessels.
In addition, the group is responsible for strategic term positions depending upon market conditions and OE requirements.
The Freight Trading team in London is comprised of 5 people who provide chartering and freight trading services to a number of customer groups associated with the London office.
In providing the above service the Freight Trading team becomes the main point of contact with the customer groups and therefore is responsible for many of the ancillary duties associated with the commercial aspects of shipping.
Responsibilities
- As a member of the London Freight trading team the candidate will have key responsibilities as below:
- Provide quality shipping for customer groups at competitive freight levels through spot charters
- Identify, develop and execute profitable short term physical and synthetic time charter opportunities whilst ensuring maximum profitable deployment of the long term-controlled fleet.
Works with the relevant commodity teams including FFA to generate mutual earnings and growth opportunities whilst ensuring enterprise economics prevail in commercial decision-making.
- Work collaboratively to generate cross regional and cross segment alignment and optimization.
- Manage broker, industry and customer relationships associated with each individual chartering desk.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry counterparts including ship owners, charterers and brokers that provide value to Chevron.
- Work closely with the Marine Assurance to manage marine risk through pre-screening, vetting support processes, acquiring the highest quality tonnage, and developing partnerships with quality ship owners.
- Maintain up to date of knowledge of market conditions and freight levels associated with individual's desk.
- Continually update customer groups of market conditions and market intelligence which could impact their business.
- Coordinate with Chevron Marine Commercial Business & Analytical team to provide short term freight forecasting.
- Manage controlled fleet positions where appropriate by balancing profits associated with internal voyages and voyages available from third party out-charterers.
- Provide marine support to customer groups.
- Coordinate with operations to ensure voyages are performed as safely and efficiently as possible.
- Required Qualifications
- +3 years of shipping / oil trading / operational experience.
- Fluency in FFA trading and hedging
- Strong and creative commercial skills.
- Highly customer focused.
- Proven team working skills.
- High standard of verbal and written communication skills and ability to derive and enhance value from commercial relationships.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work well under pressure managing multiple tasks to a high standard.

- Willingness and ability to work out of hours and some travel to ensure business continuity.
