LNG shipping is operationally intensive and complex. There are many variable and dynamic factors to be considered when assessing ship operational requirements and voyage economics. The internal contracts governing LNG shipping activities are complex, requiring a detailed and thorough understanding of the relationships between the shipping, trading and upstream entities involved.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Administer charter party and transportation agreement terms to manage operational aspects of shipping LNG for both long term and spot contracts.
- Liaise with various parties to verify compliance of the voyage requirements, (e.g. Ship Shore Compatibility status, applicability of Conditions of Use).
- Prepare and issue voyage orders to assigned vessels, agents, and owners.
- Manage shipping schedule closely and advise stakeholders on changes in the schedule.
- As the nature of the shipping business is 24/7, candidates should be prepared to be contactable outside of normal work hours to address any time‑critical operational issues.
- Manage bunker replenishment program for assigned vessels.
- Identify and execute optimization opportunities to create enterprise value.
Operational Excellence / Work Process Improvement
- Understand and operate within the framework for internal marine transportation agreements and time charter parties that are used to structure and manage the LNG shipping business.
- Review and understand the sale and purchase agreements used by Supply & Trading team to buy and sell LNG and how these interfaces with the shipping contracts.
- Assist to track and measure emissions and carbon performance metrics to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Review existing procedures and suggest updates where appropriate to generate process improvements.
- Assists and participates in commercial team studies with various affiliates and business units.
Business Process Management
- Process voyage reconciliations and month end activities, including uploading voyage information into financial spreadsheets and Shipping systems, invoicing and claims for all controlled tonnage.
- Review freight invoices, disbursement accounting, and other claims and assists in payment approval process.
- Manage business functional requirements ensuring compliance with the contractual requirements.
- Initiate claims associated with the failure to perform voyages in accordance with the charter party (e.g. consumption & boiloff performance guarantees, off hire).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Seagoing experience on LNG / LPG / Oil Tankers preferred.
