We have an exciting new opportunity in Wakefield CAMHS as Band 7 Senior Mental Health Practitioners. This role is for registered staff members such as Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers or Occupational Therapists. The Senior Mental Health Practitioner will be part of the ReACH Team (Responsive Adolescent and Children’s Home‑Based Treatment), delivering urgent, recovery‑focused support to individuals and families in crisis. The role is fast‑paced and highly collaborative, working across multidisciplinary teams and supporting clients at home, in schools, accident & emergency or other settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess children and young people in a variety of settings (ACC, home visits, schools).
  • Work with families and carers to implement safety and care plans.
  • Undertake risk assessments and review risk documentation.
  • Lead as practitioner on caseload to implement home‑based treatment.
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to team staff.
  • Deliver training and guidance to the team.
  • Make referrals to internal and external agencies.
  • Act as shift co‑ordinator.
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions over a short period.
  • Submit safeguarding referrals when required.
  • Support recently discharged young people from inpatient units.
  • Attend multi‑professional meetings to ensure collaborative risk assessments and care plans.

Working Pattern

Full‑time, flexible working. 7‑day a week, shift basis of long days (no night shifts).

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work).
  • Post‑qualification training in a relevant portfolio (e.g., eating disorder, LD, LAC).
  • Dip SW or equivalent mental health profession.
  • Teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Membership of relevant professional body.
  • Extensive experience delivering training, supervising and working with children and young people in complex care settings.
  • Evidence of advanced clinical/therapeutic knowledge and skills in mental health, including assessment and risk management.
  • Advanced safeguarding experience.
  • Experience of community settings and multi‑agency liaison.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in mental health (CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling).
  • Masters level qualification.
  • Formal management/supervisory qualification.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Autonomous case‑load management.
  • Strong negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
  • Customer‑service orientation.
  • Record‑keeping and reporting skills, including care planning and risk assessments.
