Resuscitation Officer in Wakefield

Overview

24 hours per week – Registered Nurses and Paramedics with a passion for education and improving patient safety are invited to apply for the Resuscitation Instructor role. The position focuses on delivering high‑quality Basic Life Support (BLS), Immediate Life Support (ILS) and First Aid training to multidisciplinary staff across the Trust.

Job Details

• Contract: Fixed term, 12 months
• Working pattern: Part‑time, flexible
• Location: Block 10, Fieldhead Hospital, Wakefield
• Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 a year pro rata

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver in‑hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED training for multidisciplinary Trust staff.
• Conduct BLS, ILS and First Aid courses, ensuring alignment with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines and the Core Skills Training Framework.
• Manage course registration, time‑keeping, and maintain accurate training records.
• Audit resuscitation practices and equipment, provide specialist advice on emergency response procedures.
• Support the implementation of policies, procedures and national recommendations, and collaborate with the Resuscitation Lead to identify training needs.
• Maintain and manage resuscitation training equipment, ensuring storage, cleaning and availability.
• Engage with multidisciplinary colleagues to promote best practice, educational innovation and patient safety across the Trust.

Professional Activities

• Report adverse incidents via the online system and participate in investigations.
• Contribute to the Resuscitation Audit Program – data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Act as an effective role model, promoting teamwork and facilitating communication.
• Maintain professional standards and keep up to date with local and national guidelines.

Communication & Working Relationships

• Maintain confidentiality and effective communication with patients, carers and staff.
• Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary workforce through training groups, one‑to‑one consultation and written communication.
• Attend resuscitation events and conferences to provide guidance and support.
• Manage workload and time efficiently, taking particular care when working alone.

Person Specification

Training & Development

• Evidence of continued professional development and implementation in clinical practice within the last 12 months.

Experience

• Significant post‑registration clinical experience, including medical emergencies and cardiac arrests.
• Experience and specialist knowledge of resuscitation techniques.
• Working with a wide range of professionals (medical, nursing, management).
• Relevant clinical and teaching/mentoring experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, confident in teaching a multidisciplinary workforce.

Knowledge & Skills

• Insight into current issues in resuscitation, awareness of NHS national guidelines and policy.
• Knowledge of resuscitation policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Ability to motivate, support and adapt teaching style for diverse audiences.
• Strong presentation, teaching and IT skills.
• Ability to assess and supervise both qualified and unqualified staff.
• Effective time‑management and prioritisation skills.

Qualifications

• Registered health professional with current registration (NMC or Paramedic).
• Degree level education or equivalent experience.
• Teaching qualification, e.g., PTTLS CertED or in progress.
• Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS/ILS Instructor or willingness to complete.
