Our CAMHS Future in Mind MHST is a growing service that provides early intervention to improve the lives of children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems.
We are recruiting an enthusiastic qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join a supportive team. The successful applicant will work with a Senior Practitioner across a range of education settings, delivering Low Intensity CBT interventions and promoting a Whole School Approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver evidence-based interventions to children, young people and their parents/carers through individual and group work.
- Carry out holistic, child-centred mental health assessments.
- Develop and deliver psychoeducation sessions through assemblies, classroom and parent sessions.
- Ensure children and young people actively participate in decisions about their support.
- Advise education staff to help children get the right help at the right time.
- Support education settings in embedding whole school approaches to mental health through collaboration and coproduction.
- Participate in the delivery of training programmes for education staff and settings.
- Develop local knowledge of services for effective signposting and planning.
- Accept referrals following national and local protocols, and signpost unsuitable referrals under supervision.
- Conduct accurate risk assessments and, where necessary, escalate cases beyond scope, ensuring adherence to service delivery protocols.
- Provide evidence-based information and support for guided self-help, using face-to-face, telephone or other media.
- Maintain coherent clinical records, use outcome data to inform decision making and meet service reporting requirements.
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings related to referrals or treatment.
- Integrate education and training considerations into the therapeutic process.
- Work collaboratively with children, families, education staff and other agencies to enhance access and support.
Qualifications:
Essential: HEE PG Diploma in Education Mental Health Practice for children & young people; relevant qualification or experience in an educational setting.
Desirable: Relevant degree qualification.
Knowledge:
Essential: Good working knowledge of nationally agreed routine outcome measures within the CYP-IAPT Programme; understanding of the educational system; knowledge of child development, wellbeing and mental health; familiarity with safeguarding issues, legal frameworks and capacity and consent issues for young people; knowledge of whole school approach to mental health.
Desirable: Knowledge of other neurodevelopmental and mental health conditions; understanding of service pathways and remits; awareness of how contextual factors affect children’s mental health and impact intervention delivery.
Skills & Competencies:
Essential: Excellent oral and written communication; ability to deliver low intensity evidence-based interventions; group intervention delivery; parent-led intervention delivery; computer literacy; high standard clinical record keeping.
Desirable: Skilled at engaging and building relationships with children, young people and parents; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies.
Experience:
Essential: At least one year of experience delivering low intensity evidence-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues; at least one year experience in both health and educational settings; experience of consultation and liaison with education and multidisciplinary colleagues.
Desirable: Experience of service development; experience of forging new working relationships within a complex interagency framework.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per year.
