We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Band 5 Chaplain to join our small, supportive, and enthusiastic Pastoral and Spiritual Care team at Fieldhead, Wakefield with visits to other Trust sites as required. The role involves supporting the work of the Pastoral and Spiritual Care department and providing spiritual and pastoral care to service users, families, carers, and staff across the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to referrals and provide support to individuals experiencing emotional or spiritual distress.
  • Visit in‑patient services and community sites across the Trust as requested by the senior chaplain.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings, ward reviews, chaplaincy update meetings, and other relevant occasions.
  • Offer pastoral and spiritual care to people of faith and those with no faith, across diverse cultural, religious, and language backgrounds.
  • Work closely with other healthcare disciplines to incorporate spiritual care into patient care planning and discussions.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and apply chaplaincy governing bodies’ guidelines and codes of practice.

Qualifications

  • Ordained minister or accredited faith leader.
  • Evidence of study to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Honours degree (or Faith Community Equivalent) in a related subject such as Theology is desirable.

Essential Personal Attributes

  • Effective, sensitive communication with people who have mental and physical health problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and cooperation with others.
  • Trustworthy, showing careful attention to individual needs and affording respect to beliefs outside the chaplain’s own tradition.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good team worker with a satisfactory level of attendance.

Desirable Attributes

  • Ability to travel across the Trust as appropriate to the role.
  • Experience in training others and/or supervising within a chaplaincy setting.
  • Knowledge of religious, spiritual, and ethical issues related to healthcare.
  • Understanding of counselling processes.

Training & Experience

  • Commitment to undertake further training essential to the role.
  • Experience of training in a range of religions and faiths through a degree or equivalent is desirable.
  • Extensive pastoral experience in full‑time ministry or substantial pastoral work within a mental health environment.
  • Good standing within one's own faith community.
