Overview

Therapy Assistant – Neighbourhood Rehabilitation – 37.5 hours per week. Based at Kendray Hospital, Doncaster Road, Barnsley, S Yorkshire. The role is part of the Neighbourhood Rehabilitation Service within an NHS Foundation Trust and involves working with patients in their homes and spot-purchased nursing care homes. Hours may include weekends and bank holidays. Visa sponsorship under the Health and Care Worker visa route is subject to salary thresholds and working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists across Neighbourhood Teams.
  • Provide high standards of safe, compassionate care to maximise rehabilitation potential.
  • Introduce and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships; communicate effectively with patients, families and carers.
  • Take initiative within your competence to support service users to reach their potential; coordinate duty rota, distribute shifts, and daily visits to support workers within the team.
  • Contribute to planning and delivery of care plans; organise activities and provide support for longer-term health goals (e.g., diabetes, obesity, smoking cessation).
  • Undertake physical aspects of care (moving and handling, use of equipment such as hoists or wheelchairs) and follow safety guidelines.
  • Manage de-escalation of aggression in line with Trust policy and training; follow local clinical policies, care plans and risk assessments.
  • Attend to service users’ personal care needs and participate in flexible rostering to provide 24/7/365 care where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate communications with the MDT and log relevant clinical information as required.

Qualifications and Training

  • Essential: GCSE A-D or grade 3-9 in Maths and English or equivalent; NVQ/RQF Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent (or Level 2 with demonstrated Level 3 competencies); Care Certificate or willingness to achieve within 12 weeks.
  • Desirable: Level 4 in Health & Social Care; experience in the specialty area; willingness to study toward Level 4.
  • Mandatory training and ongoing professional development in service user safety, violence and aggression management, moving and handling, and related areas.

Experience

  • Experience in providing personal care and working in a caring environment at band 2 or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a team, with the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team; strong initiative, decision-making and prioritisation skills; commitment to user/carer involvement.

Personal and Professional Attributes

  • Responsive attitude; appropriate dress for the environment.
  • Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered for disability).
  • A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years and ability to meet Occupational Health requirements (with reasonable adjustments).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills; ability to manage time and workload effectively; confidentiality and trust.
