37.5 hours per week - previous applicants need not apply. We are looking for a Physiotherapist to join our Band 5 Physiotherapy Rotation. Rotations are predominantly in Barnsley, with an exciting new chance to work with the inpatient mental health team in Wakefield including forensic experience.

  • Musculoskeletal outpatients, which includes hydrotherapy and the Escape Pain programme.
  • Neurology, provided in specialist inpatient rehabilitation units and outpatient clinics.
  • Mental health, experiencing inpatient, outpatient and community care.
  • Learning Disabilities, including rebound therapy.
  • Paediatrics, working with children in schools, developmental clinics, their homes, musculoskeletal clinics, hydrotherapy and groups.
  • Neighbourhood Rehabilitation Service, providing rehabilitation in an integrated care pathway with the local acute trust, including intermediate care and long-term conditions.
  • Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, where you will deliver exercise and education to patients following an acute cardiac event or those with a long-term cardiac/respiratory condition.

Main duties of the job:

  • As a Band 5 Physiotherapist you will need to have good clinical, communication & organisational skills and possess excellent time management skills.
  • You will be expected to undertake clinical assessment of your own caseload of patients and provide treatment and advice to patients, families, and carers.
  • You will be supported to participate in supervision, in-service training and continuing professional and personal development, striving to provide a high standard of evidence-based practice.
  • You will be part of the Band 5 peer group who meet quarterly and organise training.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to participate in a flexible working pattern which may include evening and weekend working.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

Job Purpose: To work as a Band 5 Physiotherapist within a specified service area or as part of a community rotation. To assess, treat & advise own caseload of patients with supervision from a senior member of staff when necessary & formulate a clinical diagnosis & treatment plan as an autonomous practitioner.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

CLINICAL
  • To be professionally & legally responsible for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in your care.
  • To undertake clinical assessment & treatment of own caseload of patients formulating a diagnosis & treatment plan using clinical reasoning skills & manual assessment techniques.
  • To formulate & deliver individual physiotherapy treatment programmes based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice & treatment options e.g. manual techniques, patient education, exercise classes & electrotherapy.
  • To interpret & analyse clinical & non-clinical information to form a diagnosis, prognosis & to recommend the best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans supported by a senior physiotherapist.
  • To assess patients understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent & have the capacity to within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent.
  • To communicate effectively with patients & carers to progress rehabilitation & treatment programmes.
  • To provide advice, teaching & instruction to patients, relatives, carers & other health care professionals to deliver a consistent approach & ensure rehabilitation goals are achieved.
  • To evaluate patients progress & reassess & amend treatment programmes where necessary to provide the most effective & efficient outcomes for patients.
  • Where necessary to be involved in MDT meetings to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated service to patients.
  • To be responsible for risk assessment of own caseload & ensure the correct & safe use of all equipment & appliances.
PROFESSIONAL
  • To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through a variety of CPD activities & maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
  • To maintain & develop up to date knowledge of Evidence Based Practice in each rotational area.
  • To ensure HCPC registration is maintained.
  • To participate in Trust & area specific appraisal.
  • To participate with IST programmes & other learning programmes appropriate to the service area of work & your grade.
  • To ensure accurate, legible & comprehensive treatment records are kept & collection of data as required.
  • To assist senior clinicians with the supervision/training/induction of undergraduate students, assistants & newly appointed staff when necessary.
  • To communicate when necessary with other health care professionals at all levels within & outside the trust.

  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service/organisation, whilst working within a culture of progressive employment practices and commitment to the Investors in People (IiP) Standards;
  • Adhere to the Trust's smoke-free policies, which prohibits smoking anywhere on Trust grounds;
  • Being socially responsible by complying with measures that support the Trust in reducing or offsetting our environmental impact;
  • Identify and report risks, hazards, incidents, accidents and near misses promptly;
  • In addition to the Trust's own responsibilities under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance, for your safety, ALL staff (and contractors) are responsible for ensuring their work adheres to this Code in the delivery of safe patient care.
