Qualified Occupational Health Nurse Advisor required to support a dynamic, nurse‑led service on a bank basis. The role involves managing occupational health referrals, providing clinical leadership, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across South West Yorkshire Partnership Teaching Trust and partner Trusts. The post is ad‑hoc, supporting operational demands as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality occupational health service for NHS staff and external clients.
  • Conduct occupational health assessments, both at base (Fieldhead Hospital) and remotely.
  • Lead complex case management, including rehabilitation and return‑to‑work plans.
  • Develop, review, and implement occupational health policies, procedures, and guidance.
  • Manage vaccination and immunisation programmes, including seasonal flu and other NHS‑approved schedules.
  • Conduct workplace risk assessments and specialist workplace assessments (COSHH, DSE, PPE, etc.).
  • Audit occupational health systems and procedures to identify improvements.
  • Mentor and clinically supervise junior MDT members and external contractors.
  • Provide evidence‑based advice to clients and managers as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Represent the occupational health team at Trust meetings and deputise for the Head of OH when required.
  • Participate in working parties and projects to enhance service delivery and income generation.

  • Maintain rigorous confidentiality and professional standards in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Analyse complex information to make autonomous, evidence‑based decisions.
  • Deliver specialised care packages and liaise with external stakeholders to provide a holistic approach.
  • Perform health surveillance programmes, including spirometry where required.
  • Support Head of OH in strategic development and income generation initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with Equality Act 2010 and other relevant legislation.
  • Ensure continuous improvement through audit, review, and implementation of recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse (Level 1 RGN).
  • Accredited specialist public health community nurse (OH) to degree level on part 3 of the NMC Register.
  • Postgraduate diploma in a relevant discipline.

Experience

  • Significant post‑OH qualifications or equivalent, comparable to master’s level.
  • Proven venepuncture skills.
  • Experience delivering induction and training programmes.
  • Experience in line management (desirable).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Current knowledge of occupational health issues and legislation.
  • Complex case management experience.
  • Understanding of Equality Act 2010 within OH practice.
  • Working knowledge of OH and safety legislation (e.g., COSHH, PPE).
  • Capacity to manage full immunisation programme and sharps incidents.
  • Excellent IT skills and familiarity with clinical audit and clinical governance.
