Overview

You are invited to apply to join the Trust Bank as a Registered Nurse which entails working on an as and when required basis. Bank cover is available to support services Trustwide, which includes Barnsley, Calderdale, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Wakefield. We are looking for committed Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) and Learning Disabilities Nurse (RNLD). The role is varied, challenging and rewarding, with a focus on delivering high standards of care that maximise service user recovery and rehabilitation potential.

To be considered for the Trust Bank, you must be able to commit to a minimum of 4 shifts in a 6 month period and keep all mandatory training up to date.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside staff in delivering a high quality nursing service in partnership with health care professionals, service users and their families/carers. Bank opportunities may be available for temporary/fixed term contracts or positions advertised internally.

Main duties

  • Work flexibly to cover shifts to provide a 365 day per year service.
  • Act as shift co-ordinator as required and participate in planning and coordinating the shift to ensure smooth and effective running of the service and role modelling best practice.
  • Coordinate and lead the team to utilise skills effectively to provide high standards of care and interventions.
  • Prioritise workload in line with team and service objectives.
  • Take full involvement as a primary nurse by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment/care for named service users.
  • Actively participate in service user reviews, ward rounds and meetings as applicable.
  • Provide care and interventions for other service users as allocated, in accordance with their written care plan.

Communication

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date care plans for each service user.
  • Ensure effective use of documentation systems and contribute to service records and evaluation processes.
  • Develop good working relationships with consultants, teams, other trust services, and voluntary agencies to support service delivery and development.
  • Encourage service user and carer involvement in all aspects of service delivery where possible.
  • Inform service users of their right to access and contribute to their care plans.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accountability in all aspects of practice.

Human Resources / Supervision / Management

  • Maintain high standards of care and procedures within the team; provide direction and support to junior staff; participate in clinical supervision.
  • Promote equality, diversity and rights; ensure health, safety and security for service users, carers and staff.
  • Stay informed about developments in clinical practice and promote a positive image of the service and the Trust.

Qualifications

  • Essential: 1st Level Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the register.
  • Desirable: Relevant post-basic qualifications (CBT/PSI) and experience in mentoring or supporting learners.

Experience

  • Essential: Involvement in a systematic approach to care (assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation); experience with mental health needs or learning disability populations; knowledge of key worker/primary nurse system; ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; familiarity with recovery-based practice and clinical/professional supervision.
  • Desirable: Experience of Care Programme Approach implementation; leading/supervising junior staff; care pathway recovery approaches; risk assessment models (e.g., HCR, 20); use of risk tools in clinical settings.
