We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join Kirklees Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary service supporting children, young people, and their families who present with complex mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence‑based interventions for young people with complex mental health difficulties.
  • Collaborate with families, schools and partner agencies to deliver person‑centred care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team working, risk assessment and risk management.
  • Support service development and innovation, delivering psychological expertise across the team.
  • Provide clinical supervision, training and consultation to colleagues.
  • Contribute to service evaluation, audit and quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
  • Significant post‑qualification experience in a relevant setting.
  • HCPC Registration as a Clinical Psychologist.

Special Knowledge & Skills

  • Good psychometric assessment skills.
  • Experience in training post‑graduate clinical psychology trainees.
  • Exceptional communication skills in verbal, non‑verbal and written modes.
  • Ability to empathise, develop therapeutic alliance and formulate complex processes.
  • Capacity to conduct psychometric assessment.
  • Keyboard and manual dexterity for test administration.
  • Ability to travel around the Trust as appropriate.

Desirable

  • Experience working with people in crisis.
  • Experience on an in‑patient psychiatric ward.
  • Experience in teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of group work.

Essential Experience

  • Specialist psychological assessment and treatment across outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of client groups across the life course, including handling highly emotive, distressing situations and verbal or physical abuse.
  • Ability to provide bad news sensitively and sustain empathy in difficult circumstances.

Training & Personal Attributes

  • Completion of formal training to qualify as a clinical supervisor of doctoral trainees.
  • Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day.
