We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join Kirklees Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary service supporting children, young people, and their families who present with complex mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence‑based interventions for young people with complex mental health difficulties.
- Collaborate with families, schools and partner agencies to deliver person‑centred care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team working, risk assessment and risk management.
- Support service development and innovation, delivering psychological expertise across the team.
- Provide clinical supervision, training and consultation to colleagues.
- Contribute to service evaluation, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
- Significant post‑qualification experience in a relevant setting.
- HCPC Registration as a Clinical Psychologist.
Special Knowledge & Skills
- Good psychometric assessment skills.
- Experience in training post‑graduate clinical psychology trainees.
- Exceptional communication skills in verbal, non‑verbal and written modes.
- Ability to empathise, develop therapeutic alliance and formulate complex processes.
- Capacity to conduct psychometric assessment.
- Keyboard and manual dexterity for test administration.
- Ability to travel around the Trust as appropriate.
Desirable
- Experience working with people in crisis.
- Experience on an in‑patient psychiatric ward.
- Experience in teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of group work.
Essential Experience
- Specialist psychological assessment and treatment across outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
- Experience working with a diverse range of client groups across the life course, including handling highly emotive, distressing situations and verbal or physical abuse.
- Ability to provide bad news sensitively and sustain empathy in difficult circumstances.
Training & Personal Attributes
- Completion of formal training to qualify as a clinical supervisor of doctoral trainees.
- Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day.
