Job Summary
1 x 30‑hour post – 5 shifts of 6 hours across 7 days including bank holidays. Shift patterns are:
- Early Shift: 7:30 am – 2:00 pm
- Middle Shift: 8:00 am – 2:30 pm
- Late Shift: 12:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Salary: £25,272 a year pro rata. Permanent contract – part‑time, flexible working. Location: Kendray Hospital, Doncaster Road, Barnsley, S Yorkshire, S70 3RD, United Kingdom.
Key Responsibilities
Catering Duties
- Provide a full meal and snack service to wards.
- Receive, store and prepare food following Trust food safety, HACCP and health & safety policies.
- Regenerate and serve meals, ensuring timeliness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Wash all tableware after each service.
- Maintain cleanliness of the catering department.
- Communicate with the multidisciplinary team to manage special diets and nutritional requirements.
- Record and input data for ordering special diets onto catering food sheets.
- Notify staff of menu changes and respond to queries.
- Maintain accurate records for food storage and regeneration.
- Prepare menus in advance.
General Housekeeping Duties
- Maintain adequate supplies of stock and ad‑hoc items on wards.
- Prepare bedrooms for admissions.
- Support service users with laundry and property safety.
- Report defects, infestations or breakages and arrange removal per Trust waste procedures.
- Conduct routine environmental checks and audits.
- Clean ward items as per schedule and spot‑clean when necessary.
General
- Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, service users and visitors.
- Adhere to Trust policies, confidentiality, safeguarding and smoke‑free policies.
- Apply the code of confidentiality.
- Share relevant information with ward nurses.
- Participate in safeguarding training.
- Comply with national NHS smoke‑free policy.
- Contribute to environmental responsibility.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential experience in a demanding work environment.
- Desirable experience in industrial cleaning or catering, and in a patient‑focused or customer‑care setting.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise and use initiative.
- Positive, can‑do attitude.
- Basic health & safety awareness.
- Commitment to undertake relevant training.
- Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety (or willingness to obtain within 12 months).
- Basic literacy and numeric skills.
- Ability to meet physical demands and maintain a satisfactory sickness record over two years.
- Smart appearance, teamwork, flexibility and caring attitude.
