We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) to join the Intensive Support Team (IST) in Calderdale. We welcome newly qualified nurses who will receive support under our preceptorship programme. The IST is a small multidisciplinary team focused on individuals with challenging behaviours, providing specialist assessments and interventions to enable users to remain in their homes. The role is based in Hebden Bridge and offers flexible hours, home working options and part‑time arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a small caseload of clients across the IST, assessing and responding to behaviours that challenge and preventing placement breakdown and hospital admission.
  • Complete behavioural assessments and implement positive behavioural support plans in partnership with families, carers, staff teams and other professionals.
  • Work collaboratively within the IST and with external agencies to achieve successful outcomes for service users.
  • Provide professional supervision to junior staff and students where appropriate.
  • Maintain professional registration and adhere to NHS guidance and statutory codes of practice.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Learning Disability Nurse, or Registered Mental Health Nurse with significant Learning Disability experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in assessing and managing people with mental health problems or learning disabilities, including challenging behaviour and risk assessment.
  • Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary environment and coordinating with other teams.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently and on own initiative.
  • Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Health & Safety, Care Programme Approach, etc.) and clinical governance.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems and maintaining accurate case records.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of mentoring or supporting learners and supervising students or trainees.
  • Post‑basic qualification in relevant area and additional training.
  • Experience delivering therapeutic techniques in one‑to‑one or group settings.
  • Knowledge of carer support services and audit processes.

Compensation and Working Arrangements

  • Band 5 – Salary £32,073 to £39,043 a year.
  • Permanent contract.
  • Full‑time, flexible working with possibility of part‑time or home working.
