We are looking for a High Intensity CBT Therapist to provide specialist psychotherapy skills within a multidisciplinary team at The NHS Kirklees Talking Therapies Service. The successful candidate will work autonomously within professional guidelines while collaborating with other agencies to deliver high‑quality, NICE‑compliant CBT, Counselling and Guided Self‑Help to adults with complex mental health problems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality CBT to adults with common and complex mental health problems.
  • Work autonomously within the service framework and professional guidelines.
  • Deliver CBT in accordance with NICE guidelines, meeting key performance indicators and agreed activity levels.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to other CBT therapists and trainees.
  • Maintain an appropriate caseload of clients and manage clinical workload.
  • Promote wellbeing and social inclusion for clients.
  • Take clinical specialty in designated areas of work, such as LTC, older adults, veterans, etc.
  • Participate in service development and collaborate with other agencies.

Key Result Areas

  • Offer consultation, supervision and training to other agencies involved in client care.
  • Provide assessment and intervention for moderate, severe and complex mental health problems.
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary context.
  • Exercise expert clinical judgement based on evidence‑based practice.
  • Develop and consolidate clinical skills through training, experience and supervision.
  • Conduct specialist risk assessment and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Adhere to adult and child protection guidelines and liaise with relevant agencies.
  • Communicate effectively about assessment, formulation and treatment plans.
  • Assist in supervising doctoral‑level trainees and other professionals where appropriate.
  • Support audit processes, research, and the development of best practice in psychotherapy.
  • Maintain high‑standard clinical record‑keeping and up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation.
  • Work flexibly in terms of base location and clinical availability.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to travel around the Trust as required.
  • IT literate.
  • Registered qualification in a core mental health or social welfare profession OR completion of Low‑Intensity IAPT Training and BABCP accreditation.
  • Qualifying level course in Psychotherapy or equivalent at Masters level with additional training in CBT for complex cases, DBT or mindfulness‑based approaches.
  • Eligible for registration/accreditation with a relevant professional body (e.g., UKCP, ACAP, BABCP).
  • Experience in supervising other practitioners or substantial experience in research, audit or service evaluation.
  • Completion of significant supervised clinical practice.
  • Ability to conduct assessment, formulation and intervention.
  • Physical ability to undertake duties with an acceptable sickness record.
  • Personal attributes: caring, team player, commitment to supervision and support.

Desirable

  • Research skills.
  • Knowledge of adult & child protection legislation.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation.
  • Evidence of training in CBT for complex cases, DBT or mindfulness.
  • Supervision training.
  • Experience working with service users in the clinical area of the post.
  • Experience with different theoretical approaches and working with other disciplines.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Flexible and committed to the client group.
