My name is Jen Wilson and I am the Team Manager for the Eating Disorder Team within Wakefield CAMHS.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Mental Health Practitioner to take on a clinical leadership role within our service, supporting children and their families affected by an eating disorder or disordered eating, including ARFID.
Job Summary
The Eating Disorder Team is an award‑winning multi-disciplinary team that works closely with Psychiatrists and Dietitians to provide a comprehensive, tailored package of care.
The successful candidate will offer assessments and screenings, manage a caseload of children and young people, and support pathway developments within the team and wider service.
You will also provide support to young people admitted to a general hospital for physical health concerns and deliver groups to families and carers.
The role requires meeting all essential qualification requirements as outlined in the Person Specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake assessments and screens for children and young people with suspected or diagnosed eating disorders.
- Provide consultation and teaching to other agencies and professionals.
- Supervise and provide teaching to other disciplines within CAMHS; deputise for the Clinical Lead as required.
- Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.
- Conduct consultation and triage following referrals to the Eating Disorder Team.
- Manage complex cases that require specialised assessment and therapeutic skills.
- Implement intensive interventions, including individual and group work, family interventions, and tailored treatment packages that follow NICE guidelines.
- Ensure discharge of complex cases from Specialist CAMHS to appropriate community or universal services.
- Maintain liaison with external agencies such as Education, Social Services and Paediatric Services.
- Report incidents and near misses in line with Trust data reporting procedures.
- Actively promote user and carer involvement in all aspects of care planning and delivery.
- Coordinate and deliver Parent Support Groups for ARFID and Eating Disorders.
Person Specification
Qualifications – Essential
- Relevant professional qualification (e. g., nursing or allied medicine).
- Post‑qualification training in a relevant portfolio (e. g., LD, LAC, eating disorder).
- Dip SW or equivalent mental health profession qualification.
- Teaching and assessing qualification.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body.
Qualifications – Desirable
- Post‑graduate qualification in mental health (e. g., CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling).
- Masters level qualification.
- Formal management or supervisory qualification.
Experience – Essential
- Delivering training to others.
- Extensive experience in the identified portfolio, including working with children, young people and their carers in a complex care setting.
- Experience of working in diverse cultural contexts.
- Knowledge of Equality and Diversity principles.
- Working effectively in a multidisciplinary team and in inter‑agency liaison.
- Providing specialist advice and supervision to other professionals.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and safeguarding practice for children and young people.
