An opportunity for a part‑time Band 6 post within the Single Point of Access (Barnsley). The post requires 18 hours per week, with flexible working patterns available across Monday to Friday 08:00‑18:30 and weekends 08:00‑16:00.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out initial assessments for service users referred to secondary care mental health services in a variety of settings (clinical, GP practices, home visits).
  • Perform risk assessments and exercise sound decision‑making on complex mental health conditions.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and undertake lone community working when necessary.
  • Provide triage and duty work, accepting referrals, advising and signposting service users and families.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, mileage logs and service statistics in line with trust procedures.
  • Participate in service development, clinical governance and policy formulation.

Key Result Areas

  • Manage own caseload effectively, following C.P.A. procedures and risk management protocols.
  • Lead the Core CMHT on psycho‑social interventions and support other team members through supervision.
  • Act in the absence of the team leader when required.

Qualifications

  • Current NMC registration or Social Work England/HCPC registration.
  • Relevant post‑registration qualifications and/or training in assessment, care planning and risk management.
  • Practice Education/Practice Assessor Preparation Certificate.

Experience

  • Significant experience working within a mental health setting and managing people with mental health problems.
  • Experience of supervising and mentoring colleagues, students or trainees.
  • Proven skill in risk assessment and management across multiple settings.
  • Knowledge of national guidance and standards (e.g., NICE, CQC, CQUIN).

Education & Training

  • Working knowledge of recent government legislation (Mental Health Act, Health & Safety, Care Programme Approach, Care Act, Safeguarding).
  • Understanding of audit processes and clinical governance principles.
  • Continual professional development and evidence of training in therapeutic techniques.

  • Strong time‑management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability, enthusiasm, motivation and resourcefulness.
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including extended hours and weekend shifts.
