A highly experienced Band 7 Non‑Medical Prescriber is required to lead and extend the specialist ADHD pathway within Barnsley CAMHS. The role involves delivering expert assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care for children and young people with ADHD, including prescribing and monitoring medication across Barnsley.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care for children and young people with ADHD.
  • Lead nurse‑led ADHD clinics, managing medication and monitoring progress to ensure safe and effective care.
  • Deliver person‑centred support that addresses emotional, behavioural, educational, and social needs.
  • Guide families and schools, develop early intervention strategies and promote best practice in ADHD care.
  • Triage referrals and support clinical decision‑making, including safeguarding and risk management.
  • Conduct physical health monitoring associated with ADHD treatment and provide psychoeducation to parents, carers, GPs, and schools.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide clinical supervision, support workforce development, and contribute to training, teaching and access to ADHD assessment and treatment.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust policies and national guidelines.
  • Act as a mentor and guide for supplementary non‑medical prescribers, ensuring clinical supervision adheres to CPD requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Nurse in Mental Health or Learning Disability.
  • Relevant teaching qualification.
  • Recognised qualification in non‑medical prescribing with both supplementary and independent prescriber status.
  • Experience as a non‑medical prescriber, including prescribing for ADHD and other mental health conditions.
  • Experience in a senior role caring for children and young people with mental health or learning disability needs.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team and implementing protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Experience in service development, working with families and carers, and delivering audit or quality improvement projects.

Essential Personal Attributes

  • Self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including leadership and interpersonal competencies.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Current driving licence and access to a car for the working day (reasonable adjustments considered).
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing service demands.

Essential Training

  • Postgraduate study to Masters level or equivalent in nursing related to mental health or learning disability.
  • Willingness to undertake further postgraduate training to enhance skills, knowledge and expertise.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and CPD.
