Job Summary

20 hours per week. Four 5‑hour shifts over 7 days, including bank holidays, with the following shift patterns:

  • 8:00 am – 1:30 pm (Early Shift)
  • 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm (Middle Shift)
  • 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm (Late Shift)

The postholder will maintain high standards of cleanliness and provide catering services across the Kendray site. The role requires passion for patient care and flexibility in duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of cleaning in line with National Standards across all hospital areas.
  • Complete relevant paperwork including cleaning schedules, flushing sheets, and food temperature checks.
  • Maintain health and safety standards and adequate stock supplies on wards.
  • Communicate with service users about meal selections and serve meals.
  • Ensure staff are aware of flu vaccination requirements.

Catering Duties

  • Provide a full meal and snack service, including receiving, storing, preparing, and serving food items according to Trust policies.
  • Adhere to HACCP, Food Safety, and Health & Safety policies.
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary teams for special diets and dietitian requirements.
  • Maintain accurate food storage records and meal timing.
  • Prepare and display menus for meal times.

Housekeeping Duties

  • Maintain adequate supplies, monitor stock levels, order items, and store safely.
  • Prepare bedrooms for admissions and support service users with laundry equipment.
  • Report defects, infestations, and arrange removal following Trust waste disposal policies.
  • Conduct routine environmental checks and audits.
  • Spot‑clean throughout the ward as required.

Qualifications, Training & Personal Attributes

Essential:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Food Safety (or willing to obtain within 12 months); basic literacy and numeric skills; commitment to relevant training.
  • Smart appearance; ability to work as part of a team; flexible approach to working patterns, change, and unpredictable environments; caring, friendly attitude; deliver high standards of work.
  • Physical ability to carry out duties; satisfactory sickness record.
  • Good interpersonal skills; work independently; prioritise and use initiative; positive “can‑do” attitude.

Desirable:

  • Basic Health & Safety awareness; previous industrial cleaning or catering experience; customer‑care or patient‑focused experience.
