37.5 hours per week. Band 3 Development Post. We are looking to appoint a Finance Officer to join our Finance Team based in Barnsley. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a team responsible for supporting the Trust’s Care Groups, delivering high quality and timely financial management services to all budget holders. As an integral member of the Finance Team, the Finance Officer will organise personal workload to meet all relevant financial timetables. You will be a logical thinker who works methodically, paying particular attention to accuracy. The post holder will also support team members as required, including assisting with forecasting, costing, budget setting and expenditure analysis. Responsibilities
- The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the Management Accountants Team in delivering a high‑quality and timely financial management service to budget holders within the Care Groups.
- Organise personal workloads to meet financial timetables set by the Finance Manager / Deputy Director of Finance.
Special Knowledge & Skills
- Band 3: Broad understanding of day‑to‑day finance functions.
- Able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
- Able to provide reliable, relevant, accurate and timely information.
- Basic Excel skills.
- Band 4: In‑depth knowledge of operation of financial ledger; good understanding of budget setting processes; able to produce clear working papers for finance managers and budget holders; good understanding of monthly management accounts; understanding of external reporting and accounting policies in relation to annual accounts; able to develop good working relationships with budget holders and their teams; provide reliable, relevant, accurate and timely information.
Qualifications
- Band 3: Minimum of five GCSEs grade 4‑9 (old system A*‑C) including Maths & English. Studying towards AAT (intermediate level) or equivalent.
- Band 4: AAT equivalent experience.

Experience
- Band 3: Knowledge of finance computer systems and other finance areas (e.g., finance coding structures, petty cash, VAT, balancing and reconciling accounts, payroll procedures and agreements).
- Band 4: Track record of day‑to‑day management of a portfolio of budgets, including detailed budget setting; producing monthly management reports; analysing and investigating variances; calculating year‑end forecasts on pay and non‑pay budgets; gathering intelligence to support senior staff in analysis and decision making; undertaking simple costing; providing first‑line support to budget managers; supporting systems development and maintenance; financial/system capability and design principles.
Physical Attributes
- Band 3 & Band 4: Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post; satisfactory sickness record over the previous two years (subject to equality of opportunity, particularly where sickness is related to a disability and/or pregnancy); current driving licence and access to a car during the working day is essential (reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants who cannot drive due to a disability).
