Yorkshire Smokefree Barnsley is seeking a Band 3 staff member for a 37.5 hour fixed‑term role (21 months, until 01‑02‑2028). The role focuses on smoking cessation and social housing, working across Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) and the core Yorkshire Smokefree Barnsley (YSFB) service to reduce smoking prevalence within priority communities. This position is funded through a government grant supporting smokers to quit.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored stop‑smoking support in BMBC social housing settings (two days per week) and within the YSFB service (three days per week).
- Engage with individuals and groups in local communities experiencing health inequalities, including one‑to‑one and group sessions and telephone support.
- Provide information on smoking cessation and health, enable people to develop personal health plans, and support them to achieve these plans through regular encouragement.
- Maintain accurate electronic records using Quit Manager, and keep all information confidential.
- Respond to referrals from individuals and professionals within stipulated timescales and manage own workload effectively.
- Contribute to the development of the specialist stop‑smoking service targets and attend relevant meetings.
- Participate in annual performance and personal development reviews.
- Co‑operate with the team to improve local services and overcome barriers to behaviour change.
- Adhere to organisational policies and procedures, including data protection, health and safety and safeguarding.
- Attend training and development activities as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- GCSE level English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
- NVQ Level 3 in health‑related studies or equivalent experience in community settings.
- Proof of right to work in the UK or relevant visa status.
- Experience supporting behaviour change and using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).
- Desirable: experience with voluntary and statutory agencies, knowledge of Quit Manager or other electronic record systems, and training in Very Brief Advice, Motivational Interviewing or Level 2 Stop Smoking Skills.
