37.5 hours per week - 12 months fixed term. We have an exciting opportunity for an Administration Officer to join our Integrated Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team, including the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) service in Barnsley. The ESD service provides care to patients following a stroke in a community setting, enabling them to continue their rehabilitation therapy at home at the same intensity and expertise as in hospital. The integrated team allows for stroke‑specific therapy to be continued as required for up to 6 months. All employees of the Trust are strongly encouraged to have their up‑to‑date flu vaccination to protect staff and patients.

Key duties

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support for the new Community Stroke Service.
  • Manage diary and email, arrange appointments, and handle telephone calls, messages and service referrals.
  • Operate electronic patient records (e.g., SystmOne) and produce documents using Microsoft Office software.
  • Prepare reports and letters, minute meetings and perform general administrative tasks such as ordering, filing, photocopying, and scanning.
  • Use initiative and prioritise workload to meet deadlines, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Act as principal point of contact for users of the service, including individuals within and outside the Trust.

Qualifications – Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or RSA Level 3, or demonstrated competency at Level 3.
  • Recent secretarial/administrative experience and copy/Audio typing.
  • Note/minute taking and electronic diary management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, confidentiality and data protection knowledge.
  • Experience working as an effective team member with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills, customer care, resilience to pressure and ability to handle emotional situations.
  • Good problem‑solving skills, initiative, and attentiveness to potential risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to fulfil Trust Values and complete value‑based induction.

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake further study or development.
  • Knowledge of information governance.
  • Experience working in a caring environment or dealing with the public.
  • Knowledge of SSNAP and information governance.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including preparing routine correspondence.
  • Decision‑making and prioritisation.
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
  • Customer care skills; good interpersonal skills; diversity/cultural understanding.

  • Non‑judgemental, empathetic manner and the use of observation skills to identify risks.

  • Willingness to undertake all mandatory Trust training and subsequent refreshers.
  • Willingness to undertake job development training and maintain skills.
