Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Nurse Prescriber) in Wakefield

Join a compassionate, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team within our Adult ADHD Pathway, part of the wider Adult ADHD and Autism Service. We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner with prescribing duties to deliver high-quality assessment and treatment for adults with ADHD.

Based in Wakefield, our service operates across Wakefield, Kirklees, Barnsley and Calderdale with a blend of clinic-based and remote working. Our clinicians provide diagnostic assessments and medication management, within a supportive MDT of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists and specialist physician assistants.

Main duties of the job:

You will be a visible and valued member of our Adult ADHD Pathway, contributing advanced clinical expertise within an experienced and supportive multidisciplinary team. Working alongside consultant psychiatrists and senior nursing colleagues, you will deliver high-quality assessment and treatment while helping to shape the continued development of our service.

We are looking for a practitioner who combines clinical confidence with empathy, able to build trust with adults navigating complex neurodevelopmental journeys. You will demonstrate professional curiosity, sound clinical judgment and the flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the pathway. Strong communication skills, emotional resilience and a collaborative approach are essential; we value colleagues who bring positivity, reliability and kindness to the team.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• Essential: Registered Nurse - MH/RNLD.
• Recognised qualification in non-medical prescribing.
• Supplementary Prescriber.
• Independent Prescriber.
• Desirable: Evidence of additional academic study at Diploma/Degree level.
• Relevant teaching qualification.

Physical Attributes:

• Essential: Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post.
• A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.

Personal Attributes:

• Essential: Self-motivated.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enthusiasm.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• A current driving licence and access to a car during the working day is essential.

Experience:

• Essential: Experience of working as a non-medical prescriber.
• Experience in a senior role in care of people with ADHD and mental health conditions.
• Contributed to and worked as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience of implementing protocols and clinical guidelines.
• Desirable: Service Development.
• Working with families and carers.

Training:

• Essential: Postgraduate study to Masters Level or equivalent in a field related to nursing or must work towards achieving within an agreed timescale.
• To be willing to undertake postgraduate training to further skills, knowledge and expertise.
• Evidence of continued professional development.

Special Knowledge & Skills:

• Essential: Current philosophy underpinning care and treatment of adult ADHD in community services.
• Awareness of accountability of own and others roles in a nurse-led service.
• Leadership skills.
• Communication skills, both written and verbal.
