ASD Specialist Practitioner in Chesterfield

Working in a very friendly and supportive Child Health department, we have an exciting opportunity to work within the Autism Team across North Derbyshire to provide specialist autism assessments for children and young people as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job:

• To provide a range of specialist autism assessments for children across North Derbyshire.
• To share complex and sensitive outcomes with parents/carers and professionals.
• To analyse and interpret complex data and findings from a variety of sources and share this sensitively in highly emotive situations.
• To work closely with Paediatric colleagues to deliver diagnostic formulations to colleagues in Health, Social Care and Education.
• To plan and manage workload and deliver a service as part of a regular outpatient clinic model with some community-based assessments as required.
• To offer supervision, consultation and training and to provide expertise and guidance to other professionals.
• To contribute to service developments in line with commissioning requirements.
• To keep confidential records to the highest standard and exercise self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice.
• Maintain equipment and assessment material so it is fit for purpose.
• Participate in research and development to include audit, service evaluations and clinical projects.
• Apply clinical judgement and previous experience to develop working practices consistent with need.
• Act as an autonomous practitioner within professional guidelines, applying intense concentration in client related activity and documentation.

Person specification:Qualifications and Training:

• A recorded/UK-registered professional qualification in one of the following at graduate level: Registered nursing, social work, occupational therapy, clinical psychology or speech and language therapy.
• Registration with a professional body e.g. HCPC, RCN, NMC, Social Work England.
• Additional training post qualification in evidenced based therapeutic approach or intervention.
• Additional training in ADOS or ADI-r or standardised ASD tool.

Experience:

• Experience of working with other neurodevelopmental diagnoses and differences e.g. learning disability, speech and language differences, ADHD, autism.
• Experience of carrying out complex psychological assessments of children and young people.
• To have worked therapeutically with young people and families.
• Worked effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experienced in risk assessments, plans and safeguarding procedures.
• Experience of assessing ASD in children and young people.
• CAMHS or Paediatric experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Good knowledge and understanding of autistic experience.
• Knowledge of assessment tools and methods to identify autism in young people.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Skills in carrying out autism assessments.
• Knowledge of appropriate clinical models and approaches relevant to autism.
• Experience of delivering training to parents or professionals.
• Knowledge of relevant NICE guidelines.
• Training in risk assessments.
