Essential Job Functions:
- Align direct support with the Virginia Standards of Learning
- Collaborate with lead-teacher to develop support model
- Review curriculum topics and assignments
- Support differentiation strategies (station activities/ small groups)
- Provide feedback on student progress to lead-teacher
- Teach skills to improve academic performance (study strategies/note-taking)
- Identify areas of improvement and help set mastery goals
- Provide students positive and constructive feedback
- Regularly seek guidance and feedback from lead-teacher
Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to lift up to 25 lbs., bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in a school or office setting. The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Qualifications:
Requires general knowledge of academic skills. Demonstrated ability to tutor and supervise students. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents and staff and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility without direct supervision; to prioritize work and to follow oral and written instructions.
Additional Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or teaching license preferred. Experience teaching or tutoring is preferred. Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation, State Police Criminal History Investigation, Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation, Tuberculosis Screening/Test.
Compensation: $18.85 per hour
