Summary

Bachelor's degree in a criminal justice, human services or related field; two years of experience in counseling, social work or crisis intervention; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Previous experience at a Victim Witness office is highly desirable.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.

Examples of duties

  • This is an administrative position. The incumbent performs complex tasks to provide direct services, including information, referrals and assistance to victims and witnesses of crime as required by the Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act.
  • Provides referrals to specialized counseling or social services.
  • Provides information and direction in applying for services available to crime victims.
  • Provides information regarding victim/witness issues during court proceedings.
  • Aides in facilitating notice of judicial proceedings, prisoner status and assistance in obtaining restitution documentation in criminal cases.
  • Coordinates court appearances with employers/schools, obtaining advance notice of court proceedings.
  • Assists in obtaining services for an interpreter.
  • Assists in preparation of Victim Impact Statements.
  • Provides notification of proceedings or dispositions involving charged parties.
  • Performs necessary community outreach and engages in training.
  • Other tasks and duties as required by the Victim Services Director.
