Chesterfield Borough Council is seeking a temporary waste services team leader to cover a period of maternity leave for up to 12 months. We are looking for a proactive, customer-focused individual to lead our waste services team and act as a key point of contact for service users, contractors, and council colleagues. The successful candidate will ensure the service is delivered professionally, efficiently, and in line with our commitment to value for money. They will also contribute positively to the ongoing development, commercialisation, and reputation of the service. This is a varied and fast-paced role.
The ideal candidate will be confident in dealing with customer enquiries by phone and email, possess strong IT skills to maintain accurate records, and demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. They will be resilient and patient when supporting customers who may be concerned about disposing of their waste, and capable of managing unexpected challenges such as adverse weather or vehicle breakdowns. The role is primarily office-based, although visits to waste disposal and treatment sites will be required. A sound understanding of waste-related legislation is essential, and previous experience within a local authority setting would be an advantage.
